Position Summary
Project Engineers are generally registered professionals responsible for proposal writing, project coordination and execution, engineering analysis, and report writing under the guidance of senior professionals. Project Engineers perform geotechnical engineering, engineering geology and/or environmental studies for infrastructure, energy, ports and harbors, transportation, and industrial projects. Project I and Project II positions have similar requirements, with progressively more experience, responsibility, proficiency, engineering judgment, and project complexity required for the Project II level.

Responsibilities

  • Actively involved in project coordination and execution, including budget development and monitoring, management of field staff and subcontractors, engineering analysis, report writing, and client interaction.
  • Act as a technical advisor to subordinate professionals and consults with senior professionals, as appropriate.
  • Prepare proposals and generate and maintain client relationships that may include limited business development.
  • Make technical recommendations and project design decisions in conjunction with the client and peers.
  • Participate in selecting the project team, as appropriate.
  • Ensure that commitments to clients are met with timeliness, accuracy, and conformance to the budget.
  • Participate in and support continuous improvement of the company's processes, including but not limited to the Fugro West, Inc. safety program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Project Professionals have supervisory responsibilities of field staff and subconsultants. Project II Professionals have limited supervisory responsibilities for subordinate staff members.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science with at least 6 years of experience.
  • Master of Arts or Science with at least 4 years of experience.
  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Individual should possess an understanding and knowledge of relevant geoscience, geotechnical engineering, geology, environmental, and related disciplines.
  • Individual should have the ability to learn technical requirements and field geoscience data acquisition procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, including:
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures, regulations, and technical information; and write reports with clarity using good grammar.
    • Ability to make presentations and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    • Work cooperatively as part of a team, interacting effectively with co-workers, clients, and vendors; exhibit creativity and good problem solving skills.
    • Ability to mentor and transfer knowledge/technical skills to junior professionals.
    • May have exposure to contract review.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's license, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to procure a passport.
  • Registered/licensed engineer or geotechnical engineer preferred.
  • Available for domestic and international travel with possibility of extended field work assignments.
  • Ability to drive safely in metropolitan and field environments.
  • May be required to complete Offshore Survival Training.
  • Applicants must complete a pre-employment drug screen.
