Responsibilities
Responsible for profitable growth and development of Fugro’s Roseville area land geotechnical practice with particular emphasis on infrastructure, institutional, and industrial clients. The efforts will be coordinated with and supported by Fugro staff and management throughout California.
Initial responsibilities will include local business development and working with staff in Roseville and other California offices to execute ongoing projects and pursuits. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the effort to grow the practice in the Roseville area by planning and conducting business development activities and recruiting appropriate staff to support the projects and the firm’s strategic plans.
Activities require leadership, independent action, and responsible judgment. The successful candidate will lead the Roseville land geotechnical practice so that its operations are guided by Fugro’s policies and procedures, meet assigned strategic and financial goals, and are consistent with Fugro’s professional standards.
- Manages, directs and executes projects from a commercial as well as technical perspective.
- Manages business units or sub-units as assigned.
- Mentors and trains subordinate professionals.
- Provides review of proposals and reports.
- Works independently on most activities, without close supervision.
- Makes presentations to clients and staff.
- Typically the “Engineer-of-record” on projects
- Ensures that commitments to clients are met for budget, timeliness, and accuracy
- Plays a lead role in business development, recruitment, and hiring.
- Collects fees from clients, as required.
- Personally supports and encourages support for continuous improvement of the company's processes, including but not limited to the Fugro West, Inc. safety program.
- Assigns duties to the project team, answers their questions, monitor their progress, and checks accuracy of completed work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- B.S./B.A. Required. M.S. or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- Registered as a Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist in California.
- 15 years or more of experience preferred.
- The individual will be expected to be a leader for the group, and set an example consistent with Fugro’s standards.
- Excellent problem solving skills: ability to resolve both technical and personnel issues relevant to the job.
- The individual is expected to have excellent interpersonal skills that include: the ability to work effectively with peers, subordinates, and superiors. Must have an excellent ability to communicate in a professional manner, and seek a “win-win” solution.
- Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal.
- The Individual should possess an excellent understanding and knowledge of geotechnical engineering, geology, the consulting business (including contracts and risk evaluation) and related disciplines.
- Individual must be a team player and have an excellent ability to work in a cooperative environment.
- Computer literate in word processing and spreadsheets, project management and financial software, and the use of presentation software applications.
- Support and encourage support for continuous improvement of the company's processes including, but not limited to, the company’s safety program.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's license, and an acceptable driving record
- Applicants must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
