Duties

The Business Development Manager for Orange County is responsible for the development of the onshore geotechnical business in Orange County and the surrounding region. This will include business development, proposal development, execution of geotechnical site investigation and consultancy projects, as well as leading the growth/development of Fugro’s onshore geotechnical business in the region. This position involves frequent contact with existing and potential clients as well as collaboration with Fugro’s other business units in both California and worldwide

  • Plan and execute a business strategy aimed at building an onshore geotechnical business in the region as well as advance Fugro’s global onshore geotechnical business line strategy.
  • Identify business opportunities, generate leads, review and respond to Request for Quotations and Request for Proposals, coordinate contract budgeting, proposal preparation, and contract negotiations.
  • Maintain direct and frequent contact with existing and potential clients.
  • Maintain commercial and marketing communications within the Fugro Group of companies and promote bundling of Fugro services to enhance Fugro’s competitive advantage and commercialize the value provided to the client.
  • Assume responsibility for compliance with terms and conditions of all related contracts.
  • Recruit, train, mentor and motivate staff in support of the business strategy.
  • Provide leadership, technical guidance, and commercial support to project execution teams.
  • Support and encourage support for continuous improvement of the company's processes including the company’s Quality program and Health, Safety and Environmental program.
  • May supervise local project management, technical, and administrative personnel.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • MS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required. An MBA with relevant job experience may be substituted for MSCE.
  • Minimum of 10 years of geotechnical project management, commercial management, business development, and technical team management.
  • Ability to prepare sound business plans including cash flow, risk analysis, and profitability.
  • Strong knowledge of contracting as well as geotechnical site investigation, engineering, and consultancy practices, equipment, and requirements.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to work effectively with clients, peers, subordinates, and superiors from a variety of cultures.
  • Must have an excellent ability to communicate in a professional manner and strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent writing skills including strong ability to read and write technical documents.
  • Must be highly organized and able to work with deadlines and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong supervisory management skills.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's license, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Applicants must complete a pre-employment drug screen..
