Position Description
Fugro West, Inc. has an immediate opening in our San Luis Obispo office for a Geotechnical Senior Field Technician. Typical duties and responsibilities are described below.

Duties

• Observation of field construction projects.
  
• Sampling and casting of concrete cylinders.
  
• Observation and testing of fill placement (sand cone and nuclear methods).
  
• Differentiation of fills versus native soils for fill removals.
  
• Stabilization of wet excavation bottoms.
  
• Familiarity with earthmoving/compaction equipment and their effect on different soil types under adverse conditions.
  
• Read and understand grading, foundation, and structural plans.
  
• Operate a hand level to obtain elevations while in the field.
  
• Read construction grade check stakes.
  
• Perform data compilation and analysis.
  
• Interpret field and laboratory test data.
  
• Present and discuss field data with Project Manager.
  
• Write daily field reports and internal correspondence.
  
• Observation of fill slope construction with and without geogrids.
  
• Participate in laboratory testing.
  
• Personally supports and encourages support for continuous improvement of the company's processes including, but not limited to, the Fugro West, Inc. safety program.
  
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
  

Requirements

• 7+ years of field experience.
  
• Nuclear gauge certification required.
  
• Strong understanding of soil testing procedures and methods.
  
• Strong computer experience in MS Word, Excel, email, and digital photography required.
  
• Excellent communication skills including good grammar.
  
• Ability to follow company site safety standards.
  
• Team player.
  
• NICET, ICBO, ACI, or OSHA 40-hour training not required, but a plus.
  
• Applicants must complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  
• Possession of a valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record
