Responsibilities
The GIS Supervisor will be tasked with the coordination and execution of GIS projects and activities in the Oakland office, along with managing the office’s GIS staff. The position requires an individual who is proficient in the use of ESRI’s GIS Products. Applicant must possess the aptitude and interest in team building to further develop Fugro’s GIS capabilities. This position requires independent and discretionary judgment.

• Lead the coordination and execution of GIS projects and activities in Oakland and other offices, as needed.
• Map geologic/engineering data using ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.2 to support geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and marine survey projects.
• Create, edit, and manipulate GIS data using ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.2 and other software.
• Perform analyses using the 3D and Spatial Analyst Extension and Fledermaus.
• Generate cross sections, parameter plots, CPT logs using custom routines written for ArcGIS 9.2.
• Edit and/or create scripts to facilitate analyses and data production.
• Maintain data in a standard data structure and document data with metadata.
• Hire lower-level and intermediate-level GIS staff, as needed, to grow the group.
• Train lower-level GIS staff to use custom Fugro tools and use of GIS for engineering/geologic projects.
• Educate project managers in the use of GIS to make project tasks more efficient and create products that help the client better understand the results.
• Develop new applications of GIS for engineering/geologic projects that can be shared with other offices.
• Be involved with all aspects of project execution, as well as proposal and report preparation.
• Perform field work as needed including, but not limited to, surveying and other data collection.
• Work as an integral part of a project team to resolve technical and personnel issues on the job.
  

Requirements:

• Minimum 5-7 years ArcGIS experience through industry or university coursework related to geology and engineering.
• Degree in Physical Geography, Geology/Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Studies/Sciences. Completion of a GIS Certificate Program preferred.
• Proficient in ArcGIS 9.2 and 3D Analyst and Spatial Analyst Extensions. Experienced in working with: AutoCad files in GIS; reprojecting data; ArcScene; ArcGlobe; ArcCatalog; georeferencing images; creating TINs; creating grids; and contouring. Familiarity with linear referencing, ArcSDE, and GIS Web application is a plus.
• Familiarity with: MSWord, MSPowerPoint, MSExcel, and TextPad.
• Listing of all relevant GIS extensions and related software that applicant is familiar with.
• Ability to work independently, to interact with and direct others, and to communicate in a professional and timely manner in a team environment.
• Possession of excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Demonstrate motivation, organization, reliability, and creativity.
• Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.
• Support of continuous improvement of the company’s processes including, but not limited to, the Fugro West, Inc. safety program.
• Possession of a valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
• Completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
