Position Description
Fugro West, Inc. has an opening in our San Luis Obispo office for a Geotechnical Laboratory Technician. Typical responsibilities may include:
- Reporting to the Oakland Lab Manager, perform routine laboratory soil and construction materials tests in accordance with standard test methods including ASTM, AASHTO, and Caltrans Test Methods. Tests performed will include sample preparation, moisture-density determination, compaction curve, particle size analysis, consolidation, expansion index, plasticity index, and unconfined compressive strength, and others. Prepare lab reports and graphs.
- Perform routine maintenance of testing equipment and keeps laboratory clean and orderly.
- Receive and log soil samples from field operations, and organize samples prior to conducting laboratory tests.
- Maintain and update inventory of archived samples, and prepare drilling supplies.
- Personally support and encourage support for continuous improvement of the company's processes, including but not limited to the Fugro West, Inc. safety program.
- Perform field tests and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. Laboratory experience is desirable but not required. Some college related courses and/or 1 to 3 years of work experience is preferred.
- Good working knowledge of high school level Algebra
- Ability to learn and comprehend ASTM, AASHTO, and Caltrans test standards.
- Strong computer experience in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Willingness to work after hours and weekends if necessary to comply with testing erquirements and/or to meet project deadlines.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Individual must be reliable, a quick learner, and possesses self-starting quality.
- Ability to read and understand, and willing to follow, company site safety standards.
- Team Player.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Must provide copy of valid California driver's license and acceptable DMV driving record. Must be experienced and willing to drive in a metropolitan area.
- Must complete a pre-employment drug screening.
