Responsibilities
- Performs field geologist tasks including: site reconnaissance, geologic mapping, exploration pit and fault trench logging, aerial photograph interpretation, exploration borings in soil and rock, surface seismic refraction, landslide investigations, and construction observation services
- Performs geologic hazard evaluations for schools, hospitals, and critical facilities
- Supports the geotechnical department
- Geologic and geotechnical proposal and report preparation is required
- The majority of work would be performed under the direction of an Associate Engineering Geologist
- Work includes client contact and may include limited business development
- Ensures that commitments to clients are met in both timeliness and accuracy
- Personally supports and encourages support for continuous improvement of the company's processes including, but not limited to, the Fugro West, Inc. safety program
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- B.A./B.S. Geology, M.S. preferred with 4 to 7 years of professional experience.
- Current registration as a geologist or engineer not required, but is preferred.
- Knowledge of Bay Area and California geology preferred
- Strong knowledge of structural geology, petrology, and geomorphology
- Strong problem solving skills, and ability to resolve both technical and personnel issues relevant to the job
- Ability and desire to perform often strenuous and difficult field assignments
- Strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to work effectively with peers, subordinates, and superiors.
- Must be a team player and have a strong ability to work in a cooperative environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literate in word processing and spreadsheets
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s license, and an acceptable driving record
- Applicants must complete a pre-employment drug screening
