Fugro helped The Martin Group evaluate the feasibility of purchasing One Market Street. This major 1917 landmark required substantial seismic upgrade and renovation, but The Martin Group was also committed to maintaining the building's architectural integrity.

Teamed with structural engineering firm Steven Tipping and Associates, Fugro developed an innovative seismic retrofit scheme for the building. Two rigid concrete towers, placed in the central light well and founded on drilled piers, will brace the existing structure. Drilled and grouted micro-pile foundations installed from within the basement will support structural shear resisting elements at the ends of two wings of the building.

Fugro conferred with local foundation contractors to ensure that these foundations could reliably be installed. Fugro confirmed the ultimate capacity and predicted load-deflection behavior of the micro-pile design through installation and testing of a test pile. During construction, each micro-pile was load tested. Additionally, Fugro provided full-time observation of the post-tensioned drilled pier installation to validate the piers' integrity and structural capacity.
