Mission Boulevard through Fremont is the region's key link between the heavily traveled I-880 and I-680 interstates. Unbearable traffic has followed the tremendous growth of industry and jobs in the South Bay, and within the City of Fremont.

As the geotechnical subconsultant on a highly-qualified team, Fugro helped to reconfigure, redesign, and rebuild the interchange to alleviate congestion and to create a viable, working local interchange. Two miles of I-880 will be widened, five new major freeway bridges and overcrossings built, and an existing railroad bridge replaced. The freeway will dip below the railroad and the combination of significant grade changes and constricted space necessitates many retaining structures throughout the interchange.
