Earthquake Engineering- Berth 22
Port of Oakland Berth 22- Site Response Analyses
Port of Oakland's project at Berth 22 consists of reconstruction of the existing wharf. Technical issues include:
- Development of seismic design criteria presented in term of elastic design response for push over analysis and ground acceleration time histories for time domain seismic soil-structure interaction analysis. To develop seismic design criteria, one and two dimensional site response analyses are performed using the computer program FLAC.
- Evaluation of stability of the existing shoreline and design of a new, seismically stable configuration. Slope reconstruction will include removal of soft Bay mud and liquefiable sands and replacement with rock dike. The geometry of the rock dike is optimized to identify the most economical and stable slope geometry.
- Development of soil spring values (p-y and t-z curves) for inclusion in a pseudo-static and nonlinear time domain dynamic vertical and lateral pile analysis.
- Geotechnical evaluation of end-conditions at the interface with the existing Berth 23 and Berth 21.
