Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant Access Road, Avila Beach, California
In this remote region of Central California, only one paved road allows access to PG&E's Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. When two major landslides threatened the road, PG&E called Fugro to stabilize the landslides.

Fugro mapped the geology of the landslide area, characterized the bedrock mass, and performed kinematic stability analyses of the bedrock slope. Fugro then developed stabilization plans for slope repair. Fugro carefully listened to and incorporated concerns and constraints placed on the project by various permitting agencies, so that the repair plan was quickly approved by all parties. Fugro observed progress during construction, and provided expert consultation to PG&E and the contractor, seeing the landslide mitigation through to successful completion.
