Development of Ground Motion Criteria- LNG Facility
The seismic design of the LNG facility required the development of a tectonic model in the vicinity of the proposed development. The model was programmed into the seismic risk analysis software EQRISK and FRISKSP (programs coauthored by Thomas Blake). The results of the study were used as part of a screening study to compare various locations of LNG tanks and associated infrastructure. As well as providing quantitative base shear forces, the results indicated the geographical locations and structural alternatives that were most in need of a base-isolation system.
Earthquake engineering services provided by Fugro included:
- Identification and characterization of active faults within 100 km radius of alternative sites
- Probabilistic and deterministic seismic hazard assessment to develop design response spectra for Operating basis (OBE) and Safe Shutdown (SSE) cases according to the NPFA guidelines appropriate to LNG facilities
- Selection of recorded acceleration-time histories and spectral matching to the design response spectra.
