Water, Wastewater, Oil Projects- Milpitas Sewer
Sanitary Sewer Force Main, Milpitas, California
Almost 2 ½ miles of new sanitary sewer force main will connect the existing City of Milpitas pumping plant with the San Jose Water Pollution Control Plant, creating a much-needed system expansion necessitated by rapid development in Milpitas. The 30-inch diameter high-density polyethylene pipe crosses Coyote Creek and goes beneath or through numerous existing flood control and sludge pond levees.
Fugro performed the geotechnical investigation and evaluation for the new pipeline alignment, which is underlain by soft soil and liquefiable deposits. To cross Coyote Creek, bore and jack, micro-tunnel, and directional drilling methods will be included in the contract documents as options, and the crossing method will be selected by the contractor. To avoid damage to the existing levees Fugro has proposed stringent compaction requirements.
