Aquifer Storage and Recovery
Overview
Underground storage of water using injection well technology can provide significant improvements in reliability and cost stabilization to a water system. The benefits of a groundwater storage and recovery program include:
- Reliability and Cost Stabilization
- Potential Improvement of Existing Groundwater Quality
- Drought Banking Capabilities
- Incremental Expansion
- Minimal Treatment Standards
- No Reduction in Storage Capacity Over Time
- Minimal Environmental Impacts
- Earthquake-Resilient Storage System
- No Evaporation Loss During Storage
Fugro's Services
Fugro has conducted feasibility studies and pilot programs as well as full-scale design for aquifer storage and recovery projects for numerous city water departments and special water districts in California. The studies have included injection capacity testing and existing well-retrofit prior to actual facility design.
Our services include:
- Feasibility and pilot programs including geochemical modeling, flow/transport simulation, pilot well construction/testing, and economic analysis
- Regulatory and Permitting including construction permits, NPDES, DHS applications/certifications, and RWQCB coordination.
- Well Field Design, well siting and design, wellhead and facility design, well construction inspection, and existing well retrofits.
- Operating Strategies including flow/transport confirmation, RWQCB monitoring/reporting, and well efficiency analysis.
