Marine Survey Services
Overview
Fugro is one of the world's largest marine survey firms, and provides services to Federal agencies, international oil companies, local government agencies, and private industry for over-water developments worldwide. The marine survey services provided by Fugro include:
- Hydrographic surveys for dredging and navigation
- Route surveys for cables and pipelines
- Conditions and revetment surveys
- Nautical charting
- Subbottom classification
- Seabed geophysical
- Underwater inspection
- Positioning of facilities and vessels
These services range from conventional surveys to complex digital mapping projects intended for the development of GIS databases.
Global Position Systems (GPS)
The Fugro group's survey capabilities benefit from continued investment in technological innovation. The group maintains global satellite coverage for the STARFIX and OMNISTAR differential global positioning systems (DGPS). In addition, Fugro is the leader in the development of on-the-fly (or real time) Kinematic GPS (frequently referred to as OTF or RTK).
Hydrographic Survey Systems
Fugro companies own and operate the largest suite of hydrographic survey systems of any marine survey company. The Fugro group of companies has used all commercially available hydrographic data acquisition systems. Fugro maintains complete suites of multibeam hydrographic survey hardware and software, as well as a full inventory of equipment for side scan sonar and tide measurement. Fugro data processing systems use the finest data imaging technology available today.
Mapping Systems
With AutoCAD, Micro-Station, Terramodel, CARIS, TRITON, ARC/INFO, and ArcView, the company has automated our entire mapping system. These advanced software programs help manage data, build base maps, calculate volumes, and serve as a check for re-computing field computations. These programs allow the company's surveyors and hydrographers to quickly produce detailed, accurate drawings, saving substantial time in rework and reproduction costs. Interactive surface modeling, terrain modeling, triangulated irregular network (TIN), quantity computations, GIS, and contouring are valuable features of our computerized mapping services.
Vessels
Fugro owns survey vessels that are appropriate for most hydrographic survey sites and leases vessels of opportunity when needed. Fugro has two trailerable, purpose-built survey vessels, the Julie Ann (26') and the Chart Maker (29'), that are well-suited for all types of inland and coastal surveys. The vessels combine the latest in positioning and hydrographic technologies. They are capable of simultaneously collecting geophysical and bathymetric data to produce depth profiles, subbottom records, swath sounding contours, and side scan sonar information and the location and extent of anomalies.
