Fugro Acquires España Geotechnical Consulting, Expanding California Operations
Ventura, California, U.S.A., January 25, 2006
Fugro West, Inc., a geotechnical engineering, water resources, and marine survey company based in Ventura, announces the acquisition of España Geotechnical Consulting (EGC), a 20-person firm based in the Sacramento Valley city of Roseville, California. EGC has been in business for 16 years, specializing in geotechnical, geological, and earthquake engineering, and construction materials testing (CMT).
Mr. Tim Dunne, President of Fugro West, Inc., explains, “EGC’s talented and experienced people in the Sacramento Valley office nicely complement Fugro’s capabilities. The combined capabilities in earthquake engineering, geotechnical, and geological engineering have practical applications for pending infrastructure improvements in the Sacramento area, Sierra Nevada foothills, the San Joaquin Delta, and the Central Valley.” The acquisition is consistent with Fugro’s corporate strategy to strengthen its position in regional markets where there is good growth potential.
EGC founder, Mr. Carlos España, will continue as Principal Engineer and Manager of the Sacramento Valley office. “As part of Fugro, the EGC staff will carry on providing quality and responsive service to our clients, but with a wider breadth of services and added depth of professional staff,” promises España. Mr. Ron Bajuniemi, G.E., will oversee Fugro’s Northern California geotechnical practice, including the Oakland and Sacramento Valley geotechnical operations.
Fugro West, Inc., was established in California in 1977. With the EGC addition, the firm has 10 offices and 150 employees. Fugro has been involved in many major infrastructure developments in California, including geotechnical engineering for the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span, BART projects, Ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, and San Francisco, as well as the Folsom South Canal Connector, and the dozens of Caltrans projects. EGC has been involved in similar projects such as the 20-mile long Lower Northwest Interceptor Sewer, Freeport Water Authority pipeline, 500-megawatt Cosumnes Power Plant, Franklin-Thornton Bridge, and the Pleasant Grove Wastewater Treatment Plant.
